U lancuni
Every year on Ash Wednesday, the local inhabitants from Preko participate in a procession called ‘U lancuni’. In the evening hours, local people of all generations spontaneously gather in the area of Preko called Dvorina. Wrapped in white sheets and linen, faces sprinkled with flour, they carry lit torches, ring bells, and go around the village saying, “Blom, blom”. It is a very old and rare custom, associated with the preparation of believers for the beginning of Lent.
